WELLINGTON, Fla., Nov. 1--Equestrian
Sport Productions (ESP), LLC on
Saturday released a draft schedule
of the 2009 Winter Equestrian
Festival (WEF) at the Palm Beach
International Equestrian Center
(PBIEC).
The 12 weeks of WEF competition from
Jan. 7 to Mar. 29 will have record
prize money of about $5.6 million as
well as record sponsorship. Complete
details and the final prize list
will be released next week.
PBIEC is undergoing major
improvements scheduled for
completion by the Holiday and Horses
CSI /CDI 3* show Dec. 3-7. The $4
million of improvements will provide
a world class showcase for these top
events and follow multimillion
dollar upgrades to the facility for
WEF 2008.
Improvements include:
-Renovation of all South Grounds
competition arenas and replacement
of practice area footing;
-Installation of Bart Poels' Olympic
quality footing in the Bertelan
DeNemethy schooling area and the
Magavoro arena, identical to the
footing in the International Arena;
-Reconstruction of the footing in
Rings 7 and 8 at the North Grounds
to mirror footing in the Grand
Hunter Field;
-Improved drainage throughout PBIEC;
-Upgraded FEI stabling area;
-Enhanced traffic flow to improve
the safety of horses and people;
-Completely reconstructed spectator
seating around the International
Arena, and
-Refined vendor areas.
