Pony owners.
Ask Hony:
1)
So now here is a little help for my friends that are having a problem with
boxing a big horse. First one must be very
patient person. Then the
next thing is that relevant to the problem one must use a halter or an old
bridle. if the horse is the kind that will stand up on you then the bridle is a
must. The most important thing is never make boxing a bad thing for the horse. If
you must use food and a lot of patients then that is what you must do.
If you have any other help please send it to my
at hony@worldsportsclub.info if
you need info the also send it to me.
2)Some more tips
from Hubert:
-
Patience, as
you said, is very important
-
Keep calm,
don’t scream at horse, dogs or anybody helping
-
Keep dogs &
cats away
-
Put on
protective leggings
-
Let it’s horse
friend be in sight (if it has a friend – keeping it out of
site makes the horse nervous)
-
Person leading
the horse in – don’t look back (watch your head while going
under the front bar)
-
Come in on a
straight line, if necessary, walk a bit in circle, then come
in straight. Repeat several times, if necessary.
-
Use carrots or
horse’s favourite food to lure in – let it eat a bit, let
person leading horse carry the food. Stroke horse while
feeding, calm it down first.
-
If nothing
helps, use lunging rope – tie one end at bum height on one
side of door, loop around horse’s back (bum) by second
person, pull gently. This normally does the trick.
-
Sometimes
helps to give it a small whack with crop, but this is NOT
recommended.
-
It may also
help to paint inside of horsebox a natural colour, such as
dark grey. White is harsh.
The rope trick
usually works – eventually can be discarded. Good luck!
