Horsebox accident - Maple Ridge

Hi Hony

Please can you forward my appreciation to all the people who helped us at Maple Ridge when the pony we were about to box home, jumped up.

My niece, Anel, was in the box about to give him an apple and a friend of mine, Amanda, was also in the box, while we were busy loading the second pony.

The pony fell on Anel and knocked Amanda off her feet.  Anel has a fractured arm, just below her shoulder.  We are not sure if the doctor would need to operate, but I will let you know.  Amanda has a concussion, but is otherwise fine.

Thank you to the Dr who was there so quickly to help us, I do not know your name.  A nurse also helped Anel, thank you to you.

I would like to thank Allan, (Hony’s owner) who was on the scene very quickly and helped to get the pony out the box.  (There were so many other people who helped, but I was too shocked to notice who you were)

Louise, thank you so much for helping us to calm the pony down.  You have been absolutely wonderful! She managed to get him to walk on and off the ramp. Louise also later helped us to get the other ponies in the box, as they were all pretty rattled!

My groom, Suzu, thank you for walking all the way home with our pony in hand!

To the lady who gave us the “calm down spray” – it sure did help.

To all those who I have not mentioned, a big big  big THANK YOU!!!

By the way, the pony seems to be fine, and I have asked Louise if I can contact her to help us with further training of the ponies who do not want to box!

The lessons learnt today:

  1. Make sure no kids are anywhere near the horsebox
  2. Lead the horse or pony in the box, and then , get out
  3. Always be safe
  4. You have to really have a passion for horses to still want to carry on, and, through all of this, I still want to, because I love them so much!

My biggest thank you goes to God Almighty who has protected us today.  1 Peter 5:6&7”Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Hony, if you can add anything, please do.

Thank you

Rita Clegg

Hi Hony

My sister just let me know, the Dr is operating tomorrow morning (Monday); she has to put a pin in Anel’s little arm.

Thank you

Rita

UP DATE

Hi Hony

Anel is ok, just very sore.  Operation was successful.  The wires are being removed in 3 weeks.  No riding for her for 3 – 4 months!!!  She just reminds me constantly to not forget to give her pony carrots (this was the little one that didn’t want to box, not the one that jumped on her!

" Hony was blamed for beating up a pony. 'lol' "  Oh, yeah, I also heard that re someone beating up my pony to get it in the box!!!

I spoke to the previous owner of the horse that caused the accident, and they are willing to take him back.  I just asked them to pick him up with a truck, not in my box!

Enjoy your day

Cheers!

Rita
