PETITION

We, the residents of Greater Kyalami and Greater Kyalami Conservancy (GEKCO), note:

• The explosion of commercial and residential development in surrounding areas
• The immense development pressure (commercial and residential) that is threatening the natural environment and equine industry
• The overriding opposition by the Greater Kyalami residents to unwanted, undesired and unnecessary development which intrudes upon their lifestyle

And therefore require the following interventions from the City of Johannesburg:

1. That the City recognises and formally acknowledges the importance of conservancies in preserving the natural environment and biodiversity and in particular GEKCO’s area of concern.
2. That the city acknowledges our right to retain and preserve an area which currently promotes the rehabilitation and preservation of biodiversity in accordance with JMOSS
3. Note the opposition of GEKCO’S members, the residents of the Greater Kyalami area and the signatories to this petition to any form of development which does not sustain the viable equine industry which is the motivation for the vast majority of the residents to live in this area.
